Toyota Mark X reviews  Toyota Mark X reviews

The Toyota Mark X shares the same rear wheel drive platform as the Lexus GS luxury sedan and was developed with the concept of creating a dynamic and stylish sedan that enhances the joy of driving. Sharp, deeply sculpted character lines and attractive surfaces, together with a three-lamp configuration for the headlights and an integrated rear bumper and diffuser, convey a sense of quality suitable for a luxury sedan. Proportions suitable for a comfortable rear wheel drive vehicle convey the driving performance at a glance. A silhouette with a low center of gravity combines with a trapezoidal form to express dynamism and energy.

The Mark-X has a 2.5 liter V6 engine that generates 212 horsepower. Transmission for the Mark X is a Sequential Shift-matic transmission that offers full automatic operation as well as a pseudo-manual mode for a more controlled drive. The automatic 6-speed gearbox offers smooth and noiseless cruising. Additional driving pleasure suitable for a new platform comes from class-leading strong driving performance, excellent maneuverability and driving stability, as well as from high levels of quietness and riding comfort.

The Mark-X features excellent and innovative lighting, including a large, advanced ceiling light that uses LEDs, as well as lights in other interior areas including foot areas and doors. The lighting patterns as well as the intensity of the illumination are automatically controlled according to the circumstances to create a new interior feel, such as when a door is open. When driving, auto headlights are switched on whenever lighting is poor

Toyota is aiming for a more male audience with this Mark-X, in their thirties and with a family. This Mark-X has a distinct character with its dynamic and stylish curves, and it's more aimed at the middle part of the market despite the fact that the accessories list contains everything to turn it into a luxury car. you can get, for example, magnificent headlights, a stylish front grille and an extensive list of security features. This X comes with GOA (Global Outstanding Assessment), a system that makes that the bodywork is designed in such a way that it protects the passengers as good as possible in case of a collision.

when it comes to engines, you get the choice between a 4GR-FSE 2,5 L V6 direct-injection and a 4GR-FSE 3 L V6 direct-injection that develops 212bhp. That power can be delivered to the rear wheels only or to all four.

With the arrival of the Lexus IS, there is still a future for this Mark-X as it is marketed a bit below the IS, but the target audience is quite similar after all. We'll have to wait and see what will happen in the future...

The best looking the Toyota I have ever seen, this is equivalent to the GS300, only much lighter and has more raw power. In Singapore it'll cost you just under the 100k mark, in Brunei on special import, if NBT can get it approved, might cost less. But when you look at this beauty and the specs that comes with it, you can tell this is a good buy. Here is a a little some excerpts from AutoZine.org;

"the Mark X already overlaps with Lexus GS in many ways. Both cars and Toyota Crown actually share the same rear-drive platform with 2850 mm wheelbase. While Crown is styled more conservatively and equipped luxuriously to please older buyers, the Mark X and GS are supposed to attract young and keen drivers. Worse still, a switch to a normally aspirated V6 seriously limited the tuning potential of Mark X, as did the electronic variable damping suspension.

That leaves the packaging to differ them. Lexus GS was styled with strong European flavour. In contrast, Mark X looks slimmer and lighter, with a clearly defined 3-box profile. Its soft-techno look has strong Japanese character, although you cannot describe it as beautiful. The Japanese techno fashion continues in the cabin. Its instrument panel is illuminated by cool-looking blue LED, the multi-purpose LCD screen on the center console is decorated with a stylish faux aluminum panel. This cabin looks more exciting than that of the Lexus GS.

Build quality is close to Lexus level. Most plastics are high quality, as are the wood and optional leather. But most Mark X will be sold with the standard cloth seat whose dark color doesn't look as inviting. The cabin is not as comfortable as Lexus and Crown, especially at the back. The rear seat is too flat to be comfortable, a trade-off for its folding seat back. It is also mounted too low in the cabin, therefore the middle passenger has his legroom seriously blocked by the large transmission tunnel. This means Mark X is more a 4-seater than 5-seater.

Open the bonnet, you will discover either a 2.5 or 3.0-litre V6, both completed with aluminum block, 24 valves, dual VVT-i and direct injection. The 3-litre engine is actually the same one as Lexus GS300, although it is rated at 256 horsepower (vs 245 hp) according to JIS standard. The Mark X lost the Lexus' extensive sound insulation, so from the cabin you can hear the sporty exhaust roar of the V6. Because its is 90 kg lighter than the equivalent Lexus, you can feel more lively performance from the same V6."
